Since 2008, Yvonne van Rijswijk has been painting abstract landscapes which were sold by Galerie De Kei in Nuenen. Ten years later Yvonne became the owner of her own Galerie-to-B in Buggenum.
Since 2018, Yvonne has mainly painted figuratively, such as portraits or the dressed model. She received her education in the 1980s at Sint Lucas. During her career Yvonne worked as a designer and copywriter in advertising and marketing. In the field of painting she considers herself self-taught.
The monogram VR is the signature on all her works. This is derived from Yvonne's surname Van Rijswijk. VR's work distinguishes itself, among other things, in its use of color. Never primary colours, never bright. VR's works can be recognized by a natural palette, slightly flattened colors, pale pastel shades and warm earth tones.
What is striking is that her earliest works, the abstract landscapes in mixed media, are large and rough. This is in total contrast with her work as from 2018, where she focuses on a more refined painting technique in oil paint, with romantic as well as retro-seventies scenes and primarily the female figure in the leading role.
VR uses photography. Sometimes she actively looks for a certain type of model and Yvonne invites the model for a photo session. VR chooses the clothing and styles the interior... and creates the desired scene in her studio from A to Z. VR also works with AI and creates scenes using Artificial Intelligence. This process provides a starting point she can work with. It remains uncertain how the final work will turn out. VR allows her intuition to take over and she paints the scenes as she visions them.
VR lives and works in Buggenum - a village on the Maas near Roermond. From there she runs her art gallery at home. If you would like to take a look at her work, you are very welcome to visit the Gallery-to-B and meet Yvonne in person. You can even be a guest in her Bed-and-Breakfast Buggenum Palace, which is located directly next to the gallery.
